We are moving to Maragogi in a week and a half. Hopefully we got the dates right of when the VS's are returning! Shaun is heading to Maragogi on Tuesday morning with a load of stuff and to get our key. I did have a little bit of a freak out as we still have a bunch of stuff to buy for the house, and I want it to be cleaned, and how are we going to pack up everything that has been around this house for almost 3 months and try to leave the house exactly as we found it! The house in Peroba (the neighbourhood of Maragogi where we are living) unfortunately doesn't have a fridge, a washing machine, or air conditioning units in two of the rooms. We are hoping to buy those things tomorrow afternoon. We also still are in need of a vehicle! AAH! We talked about getting two five seater cars as that could potentially be cheaper, but still actually need to go out and get something.
I have come to the conclusion that Jonas is a little Jekyl and Hyde. He is very squirmy and cries all day every few days, and nothing we do makes it better. The days in between seem to be a little better with an hour or two of squirming where he is obviously uncomfortable. Yesterday evening he screamed for almost 3 hours. Sometimes in the early morning he cries uncomfortably for an hour or two (like between 5-7). However the wonderful thing about him (I almost don't want to write it down for fear it will change!) is that he seems to be able to sleep at night. Yesterday was one of the first times he has cried in the evening. He is still waking up around every 3 hours at night, but goes right to sleep after I feed him. And right this minute as I write it seems he is up to 5 hours. Anyways, he is only (and already!) 3 weeks old, so it is definitely pointless to pinpoint whether he is a "good" baby or "bad' baby. To write down what he is like is to have it change the next day. So in general, he is a baby :)
This week was Reformation week. On October 31 and November 1 and 2 there were speeches in downtown Recife in the evening on what are the Columns and Pillars of the Church. Shaun was asked to drive a 16 passenger van from the ATC to the meeting. Every seat was full:
Then the unthinkable happened. Okay, it wasn't unthinkable. In fact, it wouldn't have even been a stretch of imagination. The van stalled. Mid driving. On a busy street in the middle of Recife. Some nicely dressed gentlemen jumped out of the van and yours truly attempted to jump start it as they pushed. I wish I had a picture of that. It still makes me laugh thinking about it. Anyways, some motorcyclist nicely stopped traffic and let the guys push the van into a gas station. We were driving one of the keynote speakers and things were getting desperate. The engine wouldn't turn over. We started phoning around for people to pick us up. Then Shaun in his mechanically inclined wisdom decided to turn off the AC while trying to start it. And it worked. A loud cheer from the 16 of us erupted from the van. And off we cheerily went, to enjoy the speeches. There was a kid's class, which our kids thoroughly enjoyed. The girls had napped, and Seth hadn't but managed quite well. We went as a family the first two nights, and both nights didn't return until 11:00! Shaun went last night, but we thought the kids should try to get a proper sleep before church today.
So although it was a busy week it was good to get out and do something. We have spent a lot of evenings home.
A couple more pictures to round out our week:
Me and Jonas in all our morning fabulousness. Although knowing me this could have been taken mid-day as well. Or later.
He's actually not Canadian yet... we're working on paperwork.
We found a way onto the roof.
There's Shaun and Jonas!
Have a great week everyone!
